Les Contamines still in good shape

Although St Gervais is looking rather sad at the moment and the conditions are pretty miserable low down, Les Contamines still has great snow conditions in the morning and plenty of snow left on the pistes for the last week of the season.

I skied at Les Contamines on Tuesday and the pistes are in surprisingly good condition for this time of the year, with full coverage on most of the pistes. There are obviously some pistes closed and a few with some mud in parts but for easrly April this represents good conditions. The mornings are the best time to hit the slopes, with the snow being fairly firm up until around 11am when things start to soften up. By early afternoon it’s pretty soft and by the middle of the afternoon you’re experiencing slush on all pistes, with the lower slopes down to Signal being very slushy.

Still it is the last week of the season and many resort are already shut or experiencing very marginal conditions so it has to be said that this is good news for Les Contamines, which shows once again that this is one of the best places in the region for late season skiing.
