This weekend is the last big weekend of the season and also holds the Mont Blanc Ultra Trail. A trail run that circumnavigates Mont Blanc roughly following the course of the Tour Du Mont Blanc which the top runers complete in just over 20 hours!
We where in Chamonix on Saturday night to watch some of the first runners finish this years Ultra Trail. The event has a time limit of 45 hours, covers a distance of 155km, and climbs 8500m over the length of the course. Incredibly 2000 people took part in this event!
We where at the start of the event last year watching all the competitors leave Chamonix, but I really wanted to see what they looked like when the arrived back! We where there as some of the runners in the mid 20s arrived back, having completed the course in around 26 hrs which to me is an amazing time. Far from looking totaly exhausted they seemed incredibly fresh and relaxed. We watched the first female came in in 24th place overal (Elizabeth Hawker from England) looking and sounding far from exhausted! A great achievment.
Over all though the event is about personal achievement and about willing yourself to do the best you can. I expect that everyone who entered will feel personal satisfatcion about just giving it a go, regardless of weather they completed the course or not.
Welcome to the international Mont-Blanc Ultra trail web site
I’m a paddler from Hungary I was a member of the HungarianMarathon kajak team section B for several times but I’ve always been interested in ultra distances once I’ve paddled 160kms from Győr to Budapest on the Danube down (streams) in 10 and half hours.
I’m interested in trail running and I’ d like to try myself in that sort too.
Best whishes

Thanks Tamas.
Hope you get a chance to compete one day soon.
